If you missed Trump’s first official State of the Union address on Tuesday night you missed one heck of a speech. There was a little something in there for conservatives. A little something in there for liberals. And, a lot of talk about how life has gotten better for all Americans over the last year. A rising tide lifts all boats and there’s no doubt that America’s tide is rising.
If you missed the speech you also missed one of the most embarrassing displays of partisanship in recent memory coming from the Democratic Party.
One picture sums it up perfectly.
That’s the Congressional Black Caucus sitting on their hands when Trump commented on the fact that black unemployment is at its lowest level in history.
Think about that for a second. Democrats are so jaded and so filled with hate that they can’t even clap for the fact that black people are doing well in the Trump economy. That really shows you how little they truly care for the American worker if they don’t get credit.
That theme lasted throughout the whole speech. Democrats constantly remained seated while Trump was talking about subjects that should have gone beyond party.
One of the few rational senators on the left, Joe Manchin, wasn’t pleased with how his fellow Democrats reacted.
So, he let them know it.
From The Daily Caller:
Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia praised President Donald Trump’s State of The Union speech Wednesday morning and said Democrats who refused to stand were “disrespectful.”
Manchin told “Fox & Friends” host Brian Kilmeade it was common courtesy to stand for Trump as a Democrat.
“That’s the way I was raised in West Virginia. We have respect. There is civility still yet. There should be civility in this place,” he said. “That’s disrespectful. Last night was disrespectful.”
Recently, the Democrat governor of Manchin’s home state of West Virginia made the decision to switch to the GOP because he recognized the party was going nowhere.
Joe, it’s time to do the same thing. Come over to the GOP. Clearly, you don’t fit into that party.
You have to imagine the majority of Americans are on Joe’s side.
Here’s how they reacted to Trump’s speech.
From The Hill:
A strong majority of voters who watched President Trump’s first State of the Union said they approve of the president’s remarks, according to a new poll.
A CBS News poll conducted in the immediate aftermath of the speech found that 75 percent approve of the speech. Eighty percent said Trump was trying to unite, rather than divide, the country.
The survey sampled more Republicans than a traditional poll would have, since members of the president’s party are more likely to tune in. The survey’s partisan breakdown is 42 percent Republican, 33 percent independent and 25 percent Democratic.
It’s really hard to understand what Democrats are thinking here. They could really help out their cause by working with Trump and not acting like little kids. And yet, they simply refuse.
